Wherever you choose to work - familiarise yourself with your local EmbassyIt does not matter if you are going on holiday or looking to work in another country that you should always familiarise yourself with your local embassy or consulate. The importance of this cannot be stressed enough. If you fall victim of a crime or you are on the other end of committing a crime you will need assistance in these matters. If you are a UK citizen and you travel abroad then you are in a different country which means there are different laws that you need to abide too. You are not protected by British law which in all has a fair enforcement law and you have standard human rights. When you travel to other countries they may not have the same standards that you are accustomed too.
Some countries do not have alliances with the UK, for instance Laos (a country north of Thailand) does not have a British Embassy or Consulate, and so if you step into trouble it will be very tricky for the British Government to assist you. This is not meant to scare you or out you off working in a different country but just do some research on the destination country you are travelling too and read up on their local laws and reviews on different peoples experiences in that country.
If you have your belongings stolen and your passport and travel documents have also been taken with them then you will need to arrange to meet your local embassy or consulate to arrange for a temporary or emergency passport to be issued to you so you can make arrangements back to the UK. It is a very small percentage chance of this happening but it is always better to be safe than sorry to familiarise yourself with your local embassy or consulate should the worse happen to ensure your safe return home. We are familiar with all embassies and consulates throughout the world and which countries do and do not have treaties with Great Britain. With your planning of going to work in another country we will also advise of these important matters and supply documents for each place you wish to travel too if you are going to multiple destinations. (Different visas may be required if you are travelling beyond Europe). It is a very simple thing to carry with you and ensuring that your travels out of the UK are as enjoyable as possible and if anything out of the ordinary was to happen then you are at the peace of mind you have all required documents and information to help you deal with the relevant circumstances. |
